- Introduction
ELLINIKI PAIDEIA DIMOTIKO GYMNASIO MIKE – SXOLI KARAVANA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This policy outlines our approach to protecting students from harm and ensuring their safety in accordance with EU child protection laws, GDPR, and best practices. The school recognizes its responsibility to provide a safe environment where children can learn, grow, and develop without fear of harm.

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, visitors, and anyone engaged in activities involving children at ELLINIKI PAIDEIA DIMOTIKO GYMNASIO MIKE – SXOLI KARAVANA. It extends to both on-campus and off-campus activities, including school trips and online learning environments.

- Roles and Responsibilities
- School Leadership & Governing Body: Responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance with this policy
- Child Protection Officer (CPO): Designated staff member responsible for managing and responding to child protection concerns
- Teachers & School Staff: Required to be vigilant, recognize signs of abuse, and report concerns immediately
- Parents & Guardians: Encouraged to communicate concerns and support the school in child protection efforts
- Students: Educated on their rights, safety measures, and how to seek help if needed
- Recognizing Abuse
Abuse can take different forms, including:
- Physical Abuse (e.g., hitting, burning, excessive physical punishment)
- Emotional Abuse (e.g., threats, bullying, humiliation, constant criticism)
- Sexual Abuse (e.g., inappropriate touching, sexual exploitation, grooming)
- Neglect (e.g., failure to provide basic needs, lack of supervision, medical neglect)
- Online Exploitation (e.g., cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, grooming)
- Reporting & Response
- Immediate Action: If a child is in immediate danger, emergency services must be contacted.
- Reporting Procedures: Any suspicion, disclosure, or concern must be reported immediately to the Child Protection Officer.
- Investigation & Confidentiality: The CPO will assess reports, consult with child protection agencies if necessary, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Support for Victims: The school provides counseling and referrals to appropriate child welfare agencies.
- Whistleblower Protection: Staff and students reporting concerns in good faith are protected from retaliation.
